Corey Kluber went the distance, striking out 10 and limiting the Allentown offense to seven hits and a run as Sardine City took Game 1 of their opening series, 5-1.
Kluber yielded a couple of doubles over the first 3 innings and a combination of singles and walks. The lone score for 5th-seeded Allentown came on a home run by Jose Abreu in the 7th inning and that was it. Allentown slugger Giancarlo Stanton struck out three times.
Sardine City gave Kluber an early 2-0 lead in the first with four straight singles in the first inning. That's all they would need but 4th-seeded Sardine City still tacked on a run in the 4th and two more in the 6th when Addison Russell doubled home Christian Yelich and came home himself on a Logan Forsythe triple.
David Price was tagged with the loss, giving up 10 hits and 5 runs over 6 innings. He struck out 9 and walked one. Joakim Soria tossed two innings in relief.
In Game 2 at Sardine City, Gerrit Cole (15-8, 3.40) will go for Straphangers and Allentown will counter with Hiroshi Iwakuma (19-10, 2.67).
