Battle for the 3rd and 6th seeds

Going into the season finale on Sunday night, only two things have not been determined: the 6th and final playoff team, and the 3rd seed.

Tucson officially wrapped up the top seed on Saturday night, behind Zack Greinke's league-leading sixth shutout, and Allentown finally secured the No. 5 seed for sure, thanks to Giancarlo Stanton's league-leading 59th and 60th home runs.

San Francisco and Sardine City remained tied for the 3rd seed while Hopatcong must win and hope for a Vancouver loss to finish tied for the 6th seed -- and force a play-in game.

No. 1 Tucson (96-65)
No. 2 Arkansas (93-68)
No. 3 San Francisco/Sardine City (87-74)
No. 4 Sardine City/San Francisco (87-74)
No. 5 Allentown (90-71)
No. 6 Vancouver (88-73)
---------------------------------------------------
No. 7 Hopatcong (87-74)

Whoever finishes as the No. 3 seed would face either Vancouver or Hopatcong in the first around while the No. 4 seed would be left to square up against Allentown.

The Experience win coupled with the Straphangers' loss leaves the two squads tied for the No. 3 seed with 1 game remaining. San Francisco is expected to start potential 20-game winner Adam Warren (19-6) against Edinson Volquez (12-6)  for Arkansas. Sardine City will turn to Gerrit Cole (15-8) to try to secure the 3rd seed against Madison Bumbargner (13-10) for Tucson. Should the two teams finished tied for the 3rd seed, the tiebreaker would go to San Francisco based on their 7-3 head-to-head record versus Sardine City, according to league rules.

Vancouver's 7-4 win over Hillsborough officially eliminated the Hit Men from the Wild Card race. The Iron Fist got a pair of homers from their own Mitchell Award candidate, Stephen Vogt, who blasted his 39th and 40th dingers. Hillsborough dropped its third straight game.

Like Arkansas did last week, San Francisco officially clinched the Drabek Division in its final at-bat. Coincidentally facing the Golden Falcons, the Experience tried to get a 3-inning save out of Kenley Jansen but with one out to go, Keone Kela kame in and surrender a game-tying hit to Gregor Blanco.

San Francisco's Neil Walker tripled leading off the bottom of the ninth to finish the night for Matt Harvey (13-9). In a tough spot, Joaquin Benoit entered the game and promptly allowed a single to Ender Inciarte, bringing home Walker with the game-winning and division-clinching run.

Meanwhile, over in Tucson, Greinke (15-9) limited Sardine City to 5 hits and struck out 5 Straphangers for a tidy 4-0 win in just 102 pitches. He finishes with an ERA of 2.09, currently tied for 2nd with San Francisco's Adam Warren, behind only teammate Jake Arrieta (1.93), and a league-high 6 shutouts with 6 complete games. He's currently first in innings pitched (246) but Johnny Cueto (244) is expected to start for Vancouver today.

Hopatcong will have to rely on an unlikely starter in a must-win game: Chris Young, signed after Stephen Strasburg went on the DL last month. He'll face off against Hoboken's Max Scherzer. The Floating Fish have been hit by the injury bug yet again. Tyler Clippard, signed after Jeff Manship went on the DL, was DLed himself. They also DL'd Brett Gardner and signed Kelly Johnson ahead of the season finale and even Joey Votto exited yesterday's loss early, though he's expected to play today.

Meanwhile, Vancouver will throw their ace, Cueto (13-10), to try to finish off the Fish once and for all. They'll host Hillsborough, who's expected to start Carlos Martinez (9-9).

Should Hopatcong and Vancouver remain tied after Sunday's games, the two would face off in a play-in game in Vancvouer to determine the No. 6 seed, according to league rules. The Iron Fist would get the home game given their 6-4 record versus Hopatcong.
