2016 league batting leaders

No records were shattered during this season but there were some impressive efforts from batters in 2016, and one quirky DMBL mark was matched.

Brandon Phillips was traded in a deadline deal that featured 10 players and picks and ended up starting a record 164 games in 2016 - for two different teams, of course.

The same thing happened in 2012 with -- of all people -- Giancarlo Stanton. Speaking of Stanton, he launched two home runs in the season's penultimate game. He hit 60 dongs on the year to lead the league.

Phillips started 106 games for Hopatcong before the Fish pulled the trigger on the blockbuster. Hopatcong sent Phillips to Livingston along with not one but two catchers -- prospect Wilson Contreras and veteran Miguel Montero -- plus 1st and 2nd round picks in both 2017 and 2018. In return, the Lords of Swing shipped second baseman Robinson Cano, catcher Salvador Perez and shortstop prospect Brendan Rodgers to Hopatcong.

Phillips finished the year in Livingston, starting 58 games, for a total of 164 on the season.

Rookie sensation Miguel Sano slowed his near-record strikeout pace but still finished only 10 Ks short of Jack Cust's modern-era single-season mark.

Here's a quick look at the final statistical league batting leaders for the 2016 season, followed by the runner-up(s):
