For the second straight season, only one pitcher was able to win 20 games, which could make Stephen Strasburg the man to beat in the race for the Ben McDonald Award.
Strasburg won in his final start to finish the year 20-3, leading the league in both wins and win percentage, after starting out 19-1 and challenging the league record for win percentage.
Chris Sale of San Francisco re-wrote the record book with a new mark of 367 strikeouts, shattering the old record of 349, set by Randy Johnson in 1996. Sardine City's Corey Kluber quietly had 330 strikeouts, which is now the third best all-time, behind Sale, Johnson and Martinez (347 in 2000).
Kluber also may have broken a league record that flew under the radar, with the best strikeout-to-walk ratio in a season. Clayton Kershaw of Hoboken put up a historic 8.9 K/BB last year, up there with all-time greats of Martinez (8.6) and Cliff Lee (8.5) and reliever Dennis Eckersley (8.9). Kluber finished with a ratio of 9.4 (330 strikeouts to 35 walks).
