Kluber, Flowers lead Sardine City to Game 3 win

Corey Kluber showed why he's been Sardine City's ace for so long and Tyler Flowers continued his hot postseason hitting, leading the Straphangers to a 3-1 victory over Vancouver in Game 3 on Saturday night.

Kluber limited the league's highest-scoring offense five hits and a run over 8 innings while striking out 8 in the Straphangers' first home game of the league semifinals. Adam Ottavino struck out the side in the 9th to finish off the Fist.

As has been the case in their postseason wins, 4th-seeded Sardine City struck early. Christian Yelich drew a walk to lead off the game and Evan Longoria followed with a single to put runners on the corners. After a fielder's choice, Joc Pederson struck out but Flowers came through again, stroking a single to center to score Yelich and put Sardine City up 1-0.

Aaron Sanchez settled down for No. 1 seed Vancouver after that and it was quiet until the 5th inning. Longoria lined a one-out double to left center. Anthony Rendon flubbed Corey Seager's grounder, again putting runners on the corners. After Pederson struck out again, Flowers yet again came up with a big hit, a simple single to shallow left, scoring Longoria.

Charlie Blackmon put Vancouver on the board with a one-out solo homer in the top of the 6th. Sardine City's Ryan Schimpf countered in the bottom of the inning with a blast of his own, making it 3-1. Sanchez then walked Yelich and got the hook after 5 2/3. He was decent, scattering 8 hits, allowing 3 runs (2 earned) but walked 3 and struck out 4, eventually taking the loss.

A.J. Schugel finished up with 2 1/3 hitless innings to keep it close but the Iron Fist offense couldn't accommodate. Other than a Will Myers double in the 8th, it was quiet.

Flowers finished with a team-high 3 hits and 2 RBI and has continued his hot-hitting after a big first round. The catcher had a respectable regular season (.262/.306/.423, 14 HR, 50 RBI) but has been in another zone in the playoffs. He's got a team-high 8 RBI on just 1 HR (his only extra base hit) but is 14-for-30 (467/.500/.567) through seven postseason games.

Longoria added 2 hits with a run scored. Myers had 2 hits for Vancouver but Blackmon's solo homer was the lone run in the 3-1 setback.
