Two rookies polished off historically good years in 2017 amid the usual stalwarts in the league's batting leaders while the batting race saw a dark horse take over down the stretch.
Trea Turner of Poovey Farms and Hopatcong's Gary Sanchez led the league in a number of major categories, including hits, runs scored, triples, at bats, home runs, slugging, intentional walks, and more. Sanchez was your home run champion with 55. Another rookie, Empire City's Jose Peraza, had the league's longest hit streak, coming late in the season, and also had the most stolen bases.
C.J. Cron put on a show in Hillsborough during the season's final weeks to challenge for the crown in various categories, including batting average, runs created per 9, and vaulted himself into the top 3 in on-base, slugging, and OPS. In a 1B platoon for the Hitmen, Cron batted .409/480./727 over the final two weeks of the season, overtaking Vancouver's Josh Reddick, who led most of the year, with a week left. Reddick's .267 average over same period just couldn't keep up.
