Stephen Strasburg tossed his second career no-hitter -- the first pitcher in DMBL history to accomplish the feat -- as he faced just one batter above the minimum in a sterling effort on Sunday.
The 2018 Ben McDonald winner blanked San Francisco, 6-0, on the road, in just his second start and Hopatcong's sixth game of the season.
Strasburg fanned 11 and walked just one. Of the 117 pitches, 75 strikes (.641) were for strikes. He walked No. 9 hitter, Eric Sogard, with two outs in the 6th. The only blemish that kept Strasburg from a perfect game.
The Floating Fish plated single runs in the 3rd and 6th innings before blowing the game open in the 7th when they batted around. Hopatcong scored 4 runs on 5 hits, including 3 doubles, with the help of an error.
It's the 24th no-hitter in league history and the first in the DMBL since San Francisco's Tyler Glasnow did it versus Arkansas last July, a week after Blake Snell of Hillsborough accomplished the feat against El Paso. It's the second no-hitter in Hopatcong's history; the first was by Josh Tomlin in 2012.
Strasburg, 31, threw his first no-hitter as a much-heralded rookie with the Carolina Mudcats in 2011. He also struck out 11 in that no-no while walking 3. At the time, it was only the fifth complete-game no-hitter in league history.
