Glasnow throws 2nd no-hitter of 2019

A week after Hillsborough was the first franchise to throw three no-hitters, San Francisco upped the ante, matching them with a no-no by Tyler Glasnow.

It's the third no-hitter in San Francisco history. The others were a combined effort by Zach Davies and Hector Neris last season and in 2015 when Scott Kazmir did it against Vancouver. The no-hitter is the second this season, after Blake Snell's non-shutout no-no the previous week, and the 23rd no-hit effort in league history.

Glasnow (3-5) struck out 10 ad walked 1 in an 8-0 shutout of Arkansas at home on Aug. 1. The Experience bludgeoned Golden Falcons pitching for 8 runs on 14 hits, knocking out starter Jeremy Hellickson (3-6) in the 2nd inning after 5 runs on 6 hits, including back-to-back homers to start  the game by Brandon Belt and Matt Carpenter.

Meanwhile, after getting a groundout to open the game, Glasnow struck out five in a row. A two-out walk to Buster Posey in the 5th was the only blemish that kept him from a perfect game. He managed 14 outs via the ground ball, with just 3 fly ball outs. Glasnow, who turns 26 later this month, threw an astounding 77 of his 105 pitches for strikes (.733).

The 10 strikeouts and 1 walk, coupled with a no-hitter, gave Glasnow a league-best 96 Game Score, besting a 95-point outing by Justin Verlander in May and a 94 from Blake Snell's no-hitter a week earlier.

After the Belt-Carpenter homers, Trevor Story and Charlie Culberson each singled before a triple by Andrelton Simmons made it 4-0. Ender Iciarte then doubled and it was already 5-0 with just 1 out in the game. Hellickson got out of the 1st but when he plunked Belt to lead off the 2nd, he got the hook in favor of Adam Conley. The lefty induced a double play but then walked Joc Pederson who scored on a triple by Story, who then game home on a wild pitch for a 7-0 lead. A single by Culberson chased Conley.

Yonny Chirinos settled things down somewhat for Arkansas, going the next 5 1/3 innings, scattering 5 hits and a run. Brad Hand mopped it up with a scoreless 9th inning. The Experience finished with 8 runs on 14 hits, and even left 8 men on.
