Tucson takes Game 4 to tie series

Tucson pounded out 12 hits on their way to a 5-3 win in Game 4 at Arkansas, trying the DMBL World Series at 2-2.

Madison Bumgarner scattered 6 hits over 7 innings, giving up 3 runs but just 1 earned, for the win. He struck out 6 and walked 1. Bumgarner got the call to start Game 4 - his first postseason start this year - after Jake Arrieta went 10 innings in Game 1. Dellin Betances got the first two outs in the 8th before yielding Martin Prado's 3rd hit of the game. Tony Watson came on to record a 4-out save to secure the victory.

Nine of the Scorpions' 12 hits came from the first four hitters in the lineup. Prado and Buster Posey combined for 5 of the 8 hits by Arkansas.

Both teams got on the board early, plating runs in the 1st inning. Jose Altuve led off the game with a single and Lucas Duda followed with a double down the right-field line to put two Scorpions in scoring position. Nelson Cruz's groundout to 1st scored Altuve and moved Duda to 3rd. Darin Ruf walked before Keuchel struck out A.J. Ellis to get out of the inning only trailing 1-0.

The Golden Falcons answered in bottom of the inning. Lorenzo Cain reached after an error by Bumgarner, followed by a Buster Posey single to shallow center. Cain took 3rd on a flyout to right by Anthony Rizzo and trotted home on Prado's single to center. Khris Davis struck out to end the inning with the game knotted at 1-1.

The next few innings were quiet, with Keuchel getting out of a 1st-and-3rd jam in the 3rd by coaxing a groundball double play out of Darin Ruf to end the inning.

Tucson broke the 1-1 tie in the 5th on a two-run bomb to left-center by Marcell Ozuna, who had a team-high 3 hits and 3 RBI.

Arkansas quickly answered again with 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th to tie it. Posey led off the inning by getting hit by a pitch and Rizzo followed with a single. Prado doubled down the left-field line to score Posey. A passed ball by Ellis allowed Rizzo to score the tying run and put Prado at 3rd with the go-ahead run and none out. Bumgarner bore down and got a groundball out to short by Davis before striking out Brock Holt. Jordy Mercer flied to left to strand Prado at 3rd and keep the score at 3-3.

Sam Dyson had taken over for Keuchel, recording the final out of the 6th inning. Altuve got the Scorpions going again with a leadoff single in the 7th and a stolen base then scored on Ozuna's single. Duda followed with another single, putting men on 1st and 3rd. Nelson Cruz grounded into a double play to 2nd, scoring Ozuna but clearing the bases. Kyle Schwarber, pinch-hitting for Ruf, struck out to end the 6th with Tucson holding a 5-3 advantage.

On three days' rest, Keuchel went 5 2/3 innings, surrendering 3 runs on 9 hits. He struck out 5 and walked one. Dyson took the loss, yielding 2 runs on 3 hits over 1 1/3 innings. Joaquin Benoit tossed a perfect 2 innings with a strikeout to finish the game.

Game 5 will be Monday in Tucson. Arrieta is likely to get the start for the Scorpions against Matt Harvey for the Golden Falcons.
