Mark Buehrle pitched a 2-hit shutout of the Bombers yesterday. He struck out 6 and walked 3 in the effort. It was his 30th career complete game (tied for 20th all-time). Adam Dunn hit a home run and was 2-3 in the 5-0 victory. Both Bomber hits were by Michael Young.
Chipper Jones' 5 RBI led Newark to a 13-6 victory over Vancouver. Jones hit his 382nd career home run, passing Sugar Bear alum Mark McGwire for No. 11 all-time. Jones is now one behind Vlad Guerrero, who is currently on the Rat Pack's disabled list, but expects to be activated for the second half. Watch for Chipper (and Vlad) to also pass Frank Thomas (384) and Juan Gonzalez (385) and the number 9 and 8 spots, respectively.
How about those Mighty Men? After winning their 8th straight yesterday, an 11-3 blowout of the Endzone Animals, the Mighty Men have opened up a 3-game lead on the Sugar Bears in the Hanover Division. Adrian Gonzalez and Orlando Hudson each had 4 RBIs in the game, with Hudson hitting 2 homers. He now has 4 on the season.
John Maine improved to 8-3 with a decent 6-inning effort in Carolina's 6-5 squeaker over Amityville. Since being left for dead by Philly, Maine has been 8-2 for Carolina with a 4.15 ERA.

Predictions are up!
That's right! Both the Swami and Butch's Sims are now available for your perusal. But what if your team didn't do too well with the prognosticators? Well if Hoboken did that last year, they'd have missed out on the playoffs, so take it with a grain of salt. Nevertheless feel free to rip into them on the Ning.
Hillsborough's offensive drought continued yesterday as they were shut down by Carolina, 2-1. Brian Bannister pitched seven innings, limiting the Hitmen to five hits. Felix Hernandez was the hard luck loser this time, giving up only four hits in seven innings, but walking four. The Hitmen have now scored five runs in their first three games and given up 19.
Las Vegas survived a Hoboken rally that tied their game up at 3 in the 7th, but the Rats scored four runs in the top of the 10th to take the lead back. Jeff Keppinger had 3 hits and Matt Holliday had 3 RBIs. The Rats are the first 3-0 team in the DMBL.
The Plunkers pulled off an upset against the Sugar Bears, 3-2, thanks to a strong performance from Mark Buehrle. Buehrle lasted 7 innings, giving up one run on five hits and four walks. Torii Hunter hit two solo homers in the contest.
Magglio Ordonez was 4-5 and Albert Pujols and Mark Teixeira each had 3 RBIs as the Endzone Animals crushed the Golden Falcons 11-3. Starter Wandy Rodriguez was chased in the first inning without recording an out.
Kevin Youkilis (3-5, HR, 5 RBIs), Ryan Braun (3-6, HR, 4 RBIs), and Mike Jacobs (3-5, HR, 4 RBIs) combined to belt the Iron Fist 13-7. Absorbing most of the damage was reliever Matt Herges, who entered the game in the second inning. Herges gave up seven runs in 1.1 innings, replacing an injured Rich Hill.

Big Deals rejuvenate cooling Hot Stove league
Well there certainly is a lot of discussion going on around the draft date, especially the time. We'll try to hammer this one out in the next few days.
And remember when I posted something about how quiet the Hot Stove league had become? OOPS, I guess the DMBL gods heard me and forced a couple of trades over the past 24 hours.
First it was Vancouver completing a long-rumored deal that sent outfielder Jason Bay, young first baseman Conor Jackson and a fourth round pick in 2009 to Marietta for DMBL veteran Todd Helton. Helton had been a mainstay in the Mighty Men lineup since 2001, so the fans were very upset at the news. Irate fans called into the Fan's Rude Awakening radio show this morning screaming for owner David Landsman's head. "We could have gotten the same package for Wes Helms" said livid caller Jimbo from Kennesaw. "If Landsman knew what he was doing he could have gotten Prince Fielder and Vlad Guerrero for Helton" said another heated listener. Landsman was too distraught for questions but issued a brief statement that began "Today we say goodbye to a truly Mighty Man." A tearful Landsman departed the scene while upset fans picketed the parking lot. "He was a fan favorite" said manager Graig Nettles.
Meanwhile, Honolulu finally did something about their glut of catchers. The Sharks shipped off Brian McCann to D.C. in exchange for pitcher Mark Buehrle and a third round pick. Buerhle will solidify a solid staff featuring Roy Oswalt and Jered Weaver, while McCann slides right into the starting lineup for the Bushslappers. Kenji Johjima is expected to take over the everyday catching duties for the Sharks.
