In the same game in which he passed Zack Greinke for No. 2 in career DMBL starts, Justin Verlander of Merrill Creek broke the record for most innings pitched in a career, passing Vancouver legend Greg Maddux.
In his penultimate start of 2026 and possibly his career, Verlander went 6 innings in an 8-3 victory at San Francisco on Tuesday. He entered the game with 3,411 innings pitched, trailing Maddux (3,415.3) by just 4.3 IP. In 6 innings, he yielded 3 runs on 6 hits while striking out 6 and walking 1.
Verlander also secured the win, No. 220 all-time, solidifying his No. 3 rank in victories, behind Randy Johnson (230) and Maddux (232), and just ahead of Greinke (217). With one more turn in the rotation, he should finish the season with 529 career starts, 3 behind Hoboken's Clayton Kershaw (532), and is likely to complete his DMBL career within the top 3 of every major cumulative pitching category:
- Innings, 3,417+ (1st)
- Starts, 529 (2nd)
- Losses, 173 (2nd)
- Wins. 220 (3rd)
- Strikeouts, 3,351+ (3rd)
