Like catcher, shortstop used to be primarily a defensive position with any offense coming out of the 6 hole considered a bonus. That's changed in the past couple of decades although it seems like maybe it's making a comeback with the pedestrian production generally seen at the shortstop position in DMBL this year.

Hoboken comes back to beat Hopatcong 5 in games

Alvarez launches 3 HRs in Hopatcong win
Hopatcong's Pedro Alvarez had collected 3 HRs before he stepped to the plate in the 9th inning with a chance to tie a league record with his 4th dong.
