Jonah Bride joined the likes of Yangervis Solarte and Scooter Gennett in the annals of DMBL history, becoming at least the 13th player to hit for the cycle.
The Livingston 1B went 4-for-5 with 2 runs scored, a HR and 4 RBI as the Lords of Swing pummeled San Francisco 14-2 on the road in the 6th game of the season Saturday night. Livingston collected 16 hits while San Francisco had 5; both teams left just 4 men on base.
It's the first cycle in the DMBL since 2021 when Rafael Devers of Arkansas also did it against San Francisco. Coincidently, Solarte hit for the cycle with San Francisco in 2017. It's also the first cycle in franchise history for the Lords of Swing.
Livingston scored 2 runs in each of the first 3 innings and again in 5th before adding a run in the 6th and putting the game well out of reach with 5 in the 7th. The rookie Bride, drafted in the 2nd round (24th overall) this year, batted cleanup. He flied out to LF in the 1st before getting the triple out of the way in the 3rd, driving in Vlad Guerrero, Jr. (whose father, Vlad, is among the 13 players in league history to hit for the cycle) to make it 4-0. In the 5th, Bride singled down the RF line, scoring Guerrero again, for a 6-2 lead against Experience SP Jack Flaherty.
Bride's HR came in the 7th off RP Tommy Kahnle, a two-run blast that preceded a solo shot by fellow rookie Ivan Herrera, that made it 11-2 Bride came to the plate in the 8th needing a double for the cycle and delivered with a line drive to left center that sent Kahnle to the showers.George Kirby (1-0) was the beneficiary of Livingston's bats, getting his first win of the season. He tossed 7 innings and yielded 2 runs on 4 hits with 6 strikeouts. RPs Manuel Rodriguez and Porter Hodge finished up the last 2 innings, tossing 2/3 and 1 1/3 IP, respectively.
Flaherty (0-1) was saddled with the loss, giving up 9 runs on 10 hits over 6 innings. He struck out 7 and walked 2. Kahnle saw his ERA balloon after an 1 2/3 IP outing that saw 5 runs cross the plate on 5 hits. He struck out 2 and walked a batter. Anthony Munoz finished up with 1 1/3 IP of 1-hit relief.
