Erie no-hits San Francisco

A 3rd-inning error and a hit batsman in the 8th inning was all that kept Erie from recording the second perfect game in DMBL history.

Four Snowwolves pitchers combined to no-hit San Francisco 8-0 at home on Sunday

It's the 8th combined no-hitter in league history and 29th overall. It's the first for the Erie franchise. The last no-hitter was thrown by Jacob deGrom last July. Anthony DeScalfani remains the only pitcher in DMBL history to throw perfect game, accomplishing it last season with Sardine City against Erie.

Starter Michael Wacha, acquired days earlier from Green Lake for a 6th round pick and SP Cole Irvin, exited after just one inning, striking out the last two batters he faced. Paul Sewald came on in relief of Wacha, lasting 1 2/3 innings, getting the hook after Jeff McNeil misplayed an Austin Slater ground ball. Chase De Jong finished off the 3rd inning. He earned the win, going 4 1/3 innings with 4 strikeouts. Trevor Stephan opened the 8th by plunking Danny Jansen. That was the only blemish in his 2 innings of work, which included 3 strikeouts.

All four pitchers were sharp, combining for 12 strikeouts, no walks, with 81 of 114 pitches going for strikes (71 percent).

The Snowwolves pounded out 15 hits, led by Josh Bell's 4 and Adolis Garcias 3, plating 8 runs. Bell had 2 RBI as did Alejandro Kirk and Luis Gonzalez to lead the team. Most of the damage was done off San Francisco starter Merrill Kelly, who was pummeled for 6 runs on 12 hits over 5 2/3 innings.

Erie moved to 19-10 with their 4th straight win. San Francisco fell to 11-14, suffering their 4th consecutive loss.
