Minor blanks Tucson to force Game 7

Mike Minor tossed a five-hitter for his 2nd win of the DMBL semifinals, bringing No. 2 Allentown back from a 3-1 deficit to force a Game 7 versus No. 3 Tucson.

Minor (2-0), the league leader with 247 innings in the regular season, tossed a season-high 136 pitches in the 7-0 shutout on Thursday night in Allentown. He finished with 7 strikeouts and 3 walks; 84 of his pitches were for strikes (.617). It's the first complete game in the league this postseason. He also picked up the W in a 6-5 win in Game 2, yielding 3 runs over 6 innings.

The Mules drew first blood with three consecutive two-out singles in the 3rd off Tucson starter Luke Weaver, punctuated by Manny Machado driving in D.J. LeMahieu.

Tucson, which blasted the 3rd most homers in a season in DMBL history, was held in check by the left-hander, who led the Mules with a 16-12 mark in the regular season. The King Snakes' most serious threat came in the 5th when a fielder's choice after two singles put men on the corners before Minor retired the side. Tucson managed a hit or base on balls the rest of the way but never got a man in scoring position until a 9th-inning double by Willson Contreras.

Weaver (1-1) suffered his first lost of this postseason, tagged for 3 runs on 8 hits over 5 innings. He struck out 5 and walked 1 despite 62 of his 94 pitches for strikes (.659). Josh Hader continued a miserable postseason with 2 lousy innings, bludgeoned for 4 runs on 5 hits, including 3 HRs, a double and a triple. Reyes Moronta finished up the last 2 innings with a scoreless effort. Hader has yielded a league-leading 8 HRs in 6 appearances this postseason despite 13:0 K:BB.

Danny Santana greeted Hader with a bomb deep to left to open the 6th and two batters later, Ozzie Albies took him deep down the left-field line, extending the Mules' lead to 5-0. Despite that, Hader struck out the side. In the 7th, he yielded three straight extra-base hits: Manny Machado blasted a solo shot deep to left, followed by a double down the first-base line by Eduardo Escobar and a triple deep to center by Max Muncy to make it a 7-0 blowout.

Allentown finished with 7 runs on 13 hits, leaving 7 on base, plus an error, while limiting Tucson to 5 hits and stranding 9.

Santana led the Mules with 3 hits, and along with Albies and Machado had 2 RBI each.
