New Jersey traded their first round pick to D.C. for much-maligned outfielder Alfonso Soriano and D.C.'s seventh round pick in next year's draft. Soriano batted .274 last year for the Bushslappers with an .831 OPS. Overall, Soriano has struggled mightily in his DMBL career, despite his huge potential. Buddah GM/Owner Mike Hornick said that Soriano just "needed a change of scenery" and was confident that New Jersey was just the place for him.
Meanwhile, D.C. gets the fourth pick overall in the 2008 draft. D.C. owner Jamie Landsman had scheduled a flight to D.C. for draft day, but a last minute change of plans had Landsman staying at DMBL Draft Headquarters.

Crappy trade for the league. Great deal for DC.
Well, I dont see why it was such a "bad trade for the league", but I will defend it by saying that I got who I thought to be a quality player that, based on who's eligible in the free agen pool, I would have taken with that pick had he been available. My lineup is in desperate need of an offensive force, and Soriano definitely has that potential. I certainly was not shoopping the pick, but I made a trade that I thought bettered my team.
Conceivable that Soriano could go No. 4 in the draft, though he is 32 already (when did that happen?!), and owners seem to love the youngsters, so he may have lasted past round one.
Given his MLB success, Soriano might be considered somewhat of a disappointment as far as his DMBL numbers.
Either way, the deal is fairly even I'd say. Interesting to see how it plays out in the next year.
