Hillsborough continued its recent luck in draft lottery, jumping up to secure the No. 1 overall pick for the third time in the past five years.
The Hit Men won the 2023 draft lottery, jumping five spots to select SP Spencer Strider, and the 2020 draft lottery, swapping No. 2 for No. 1 to grab 1B/DH Yordan Alvarez.
Hillsborough (-) improved their position from 3rd overall to No. 1,
jumping the Green Lake Gators (-), who fell to No. 2. The original No. 2
pick, Double Dragons (-), dropped to No. 4. Blue Ridge (-) benefited from DD's
decline, hopping from 4th to 3rd. Remarkably, Merrill Creek (69-96) was the only franchise to remain with their projected pick based on last year's record and will selected 5th.
Vancouver (85-77) had the biggest leap
among the 12 non-playoff teams, improving from 10th to 6th, pushing
three other teams back. Allentown (83-79) will follow at No. 7, leaping from No.
9.
El Paso (71-91) dipped from No. 6 to No. 8 and San Francisco (78-84)
joined Green Lake as the biggest drops (3), going from No. 7 to No. 10.
Hopatcong (82-80) backtracked from No. 8 to No. 9.
At the end of the lottery, Erie (87-76) and Livingston (86-76) swapped places, with the Snowwolves now picking 11th and the Lords of Swing selecting 12th.
The 12 teams that missed the playoffs are included in the draft lottery. Erie finished 9th and received 1 ball in the lottery and the number of balls for each team doubled after that, all the way to Green Lake, with 2,048 balls. Hillsborough, at No. 3, had 512 balls in the lottery.
After the 1st round, teams will select based on their records, so Green Lake will pick 1st, followed by Double Dragons, Hillsborough, etc.
