El Paso's Fernando Tatis finished a distant 2nd, securing the most 2nd place votes (5), along with a 1st-place ballot and 2 3rd-places. Tucson starter Chris Paddack was the only other rookie to net more than 1 1st-place vote. He finished 3rd, with 2 1st-place nods, 1 2nd-place vote and the most 3rd-place vote (4).

Alonso's teammate and the 2020 No. overall pick, Yordan Alvarez, also received a 1st-place vote, along with 2 2nds and a 3rd, finished 4th. Sardine City starting pitcher Aaron Civale and Arkansas centerfielder Ramon Laureano each registered 1 3rd-place vote.

Alonso joins Miguel Sano (2016), Shin-Soo Choo (2009), and Ryan Howard (2006) in the pantheon of Hillsborough rookies to win the Listach Award. No other franchise has more than two Listach Awards.

Alonso, 26, was a 3rd round pick (41st overall) in the 2019 draft, by Livingston. The Lords of Swing dealt the young slugger midway through their championship season of 2019. Alonso was packaged with another prospect, Eloy Jimenez, and two 1st round picks in 2020 to Hillsborough for Mookie Betts, and two picks in 2020: A 3rd and a 13th. The 3rd rounder turned out to be prospect Gavin Lux and the 13th was forfeited. The 1st rounders that Hillsborough got along with Alonso turned out to be the No. 1 overall pick (thanks to winning the draft lottery), and that was Yordan Alvarez, and SP John Means the 16th pick.

Alonso and Alvarez powered the Hit Men to a 94-win season, securing the No. 6 seed in the playoffs.
