Poovey clinches series on 1st ever playoff no-hitter

Poovey Farms punched their ticket to the semi-finals in historic fashion with the first no-hitter in the DMBL playoffs.

The 5-0 shutout of Newark clinched the series, 3-1, advancing the 3rd-seeded Dairy Cows into a match-up versus No. 2 Green Lake.

Nick Lodolo labored through 7 2/3 innings for the win. He threw 117 pitches, just 68 for strikes (.581), registering 4 strikeouts and 3 walks. Fellow lefty Jose Alvarado finished up, walking 1 and striking out 1 in 1 1/3 innings.

Poovey opened the scoring in the 4th with a two-run homer by DH Shohei Ohtani and added another run on a 6th inning solo shot by 2B Michael Massey. The Dairy Cows tacked on two more runs in the 8th, first on a solo homer by 1B Freddie Freeman off RP Jorge Alcala, who followed up that up by walking the next two batters (3B Alec Bohm and Massey) and later uncorring a wild pitch that allowed Bohm to score to make it 5-0.

Reese Olson took the loss despite a quality start of 3 runs on 7 hits over 6 innings. He struck out 5 and walked 1.

It's the 2nd no-hitter for Poovey Farms this season, 4th in franchise history, and the 4th overall in DMBL this year. It's the 12th combined no-hitter in DMBL history and 36th overall no-hitter.
